Farmrail Railroad Motorcar Run
NARCOA trip sponsored by: Oklahoma Railway Museum in Oklahoma City, OK
November 15, 2008 - Clinton to Snyder, OK - 123 miles
November 16, 2008 - Clinton to Elk City, OK - 62 miles

The weather for this fall motorcar trip was a bit brisk at set-on time Saturday Morning. The reported temperature at 6:00am was 34 degrees with a brisk wind driving the wind chill factor to 24 degrees. Dawn brought clear blue skies, but the stout wind followed us most of the day. Sunday morning was more mild, and by mid morning the temperature quickly climbed into the low 70's more than making up for the chilly day before.

Twelve motorcars and four high-rail vehicles set out on a run on the Farmrail Railroad. Our set-on point was Clinton, Oklahoma and our destination on this first day was Snyder, OK, some sixty or more miles to the south. Manager of Business Development Rodney Roof of Farmrail Systems, Inc. greeted us at the seton point and was excited to have this group on his railroad. We were able to run a round trip total of 123 miles this first day. Due to a couple of delays, we ran a bit behind our original plan, but it gave the opportunity for a bit of night running in the cold. Everyone seemed to have a great time.

Our departure on the second day was a bit warmer and we had a slightly different mix of motorcars and hy-rail vehicles. This second day operations were very smooth and right on schedule for the day.

For the casual observer, fifteen of the best images from the run are presented here. For those brave enough to take the photographic journey of this trip from your computer, the remainder of the images from the trip are available through links from this page.

Hope you enjoy the trip as much as I did. A big thank you to Drake Rice and the Oklahoma Railroad Museum for organizing this trip. And a hearty thank you to Mr. Roof and the Farmrail Railroad for hosting this motorcar trip on their railroad.
